Rising costs mean young people are missing out on the arts. Your gift today can change that

As a committed arts lover, you know it’s vital the performing arts are open to all young people.

Yet the rising cost of living means tickets to performances and events are often the first thing to go from the family budget.

This means the gap between those who can afford to attend and those who can’t is growing.

Why the arts are vital for children
The creativity of the performing arts helps children to:

  • Express themselves in healthy ways
  • See their stories and culture on stage
  • Make sense of their place in the world and see how they can contribute
  • Learn critical and creative thinking skills essential for study and work
  • Connect and create with others for improved mental health

“Because access to the arts shouldn't be a luxury but a necessity.”

Our specialised work in Creative Engagement connects students with some of Australia’s greatest artists and companies - inspiring young people to not only dream about their potential - but we can show them how they may reach it.
– Zoe Rinkel, Senior Producer – Creative Learning

The Arts Centre Melbourne creative learning experiences are so vital for our young people. Since the lockdowns, we've all observed much higher rates of anxiety, and so many of the students are so serious all the time. The ability for them to put on costumes, be encouraged to play, imagine and create is so vital. Some of the most withdrawn kids in the classroom, the ones I was worried about, have been some of the loudest and most invested today.

– Grade 4/5 teacher, Haddon Primary School, Victoria

My favourite part of the Arts Centre program was the show, 'Hide the Dog'. It was so heart-warming to actually experience a show with a kiwi included. It was the best show I’ve seen because they include someone that I share the same culture [with]. GO THE KIWIS!!! 😀

– Ezra, Grade 5, Lancefield Primary School
